Parents, administrators and faculty members with a vision for SLMS to have an All-Purpose-Field on the Eagle's home turf are beginning to see that dream become a reality. Plans began in late 2010 to identify a potential location and begin fund raising efforts in order to build a playing field that could be used for both football and soccer. With the assistance of Lincoln County Board of Education, additional acreage was purchased, adjacent to the western border of school property, in May of 2011. After many hours of planning, hard work, and numerous fund raisers, funding was raised to begin the project and ground breaking occurred on June 13th of this year. Phase 1 began with removal of trees, relocation of power lines and phone lines, and a significant amount of excavation. This milestone concluded with the completion of the Site Preparation Phase earlier in July and Phase 2 to implement an irrigation system along with sod, sprigs, and grass is well underway. Come by and get involved in this project.
Special thanks to Stanly Construction, Williams Excavating, Jean's Lawn and Landscapes, Phillips Surveying, Staff Members of the Lincoln County Department of Education, Lincoln County Board of Education, First National Bank and parent volunteers who have helped bring this project to life! We appreciate the many supporters of fund raisers over the past two years which enabled the beginning of this worthy project. While great progress has been made, we still have a lot of work left to do and additional funds are needed. Please check this site often for updates and more information on Eagle Club Membership and upcoming fund raisers.
